Artist Information

April is National Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and our nonprofit will host “Cow Art in the

Park for Parkinson’s” to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease in the Brazos Valley.

Why use “Cow” Art? Parkinson’s disease is a “MOOVING” Disorder. Exercise and movement

are an essential part of living well with PD. (The back of our t-shirt reads “Let’s keep Moo-ving!”)

When? Saturday, April 5, 2 – 4 pm, we will line the walkways at Lick Creek Park with an

exhibit of painted and colorful foam-core cows to help promote community awareness about

Parkinson’s disease. This is a free community event.

Who will create the art cows? We are seeking volunteer artists to design and paint cows during

the month of March. (Just to be clear -- we consider this “fun” art, not fine art!)

Where will the cows be painted? We will schedule Saturday “paint” sessions at our gym

located at 3803 McCullough in South College Station for volunteers who enjoy painting in a

community setting. We will have an assortment of acrylic paints and brushes available and will

provide a light lunch at these sessions. For artists who prefer to work from home, cows are

available for pickup at the gym on a Saturday Paint Day or we will deliver a cow or two to you!

How many cows need to be painted? We hope to have 30 new painted cows on display at the

park this year. (The “old herd” from the event in 2023 will be at the park but they will be

positioned “in the back forty!”) A volunteer artist can paint one cow – or several!

Who will choose the design for each cow? The artist has two choices – 1) select a cow that has

been outlined with a design, and you make the color decisions as you paint, or 2) ask for a cow

That is a blank canvas to create your own unique artwork on the cow.

How soon will the painting begin? Providing we have artists available, the group paint sessions

at the gym will begin on Saturday, March 1 and continue through March 15. We hope to have all

cows completed and turned in during the week of March 17. If you want to paint on your on

schedule, we can deliver a cow to you anytime!

Can I recruit my friends to help paint cows? Absolutely! We welcome all the help we can get

to make this event successful. Please share this with other artists you may know and ask them to

contact Cindy Conte at 713-203-8880 or by email fightpd@robertcontefoundation.org.
